Miss Maggie

I get it. She is just a dog, but I love this little girl! She is so funny! Pat and I laugh at her all the time. Pat loves to take her golfing and she loves to go! She sits in the cart and runs up the fairway to green and chases the ball while he putts. She is such a crack up!

We keep her dressed because she really likes to scratch herself and won't stop even when she is bleeding. I feel like we have done everything to get her to stop...she even went to a Vet Dermatologist in NY. True story. The anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety and anti-depressant he gave her just may her really sleepy. Plus, who gives their dog an anti-depressant? She didn't always scratch. It started after she broke her leg and had to have surgery. $5,000 later (we had to take out another loan on our truck that was paid off) and after 6 weeks of wearing a cast, then having surgery to get fixed, she started scratching herself. I read in a dog book that a similar experience had happened to someone else's pet and they found out that when dogs go through a lot of trauma, they manifest it in scratching. Or something. I should reread that part to get it right. Anyway, the dog in the story was cured thanks to aromatherapy. So, I got some oils from mi madre, who knows all about holistic-type stuff. Maggie loved the massages, but kept on scratching on.

We think she has major allergies and a really sensitive tummy. There is only one brand of food that we have been able to find that she doesn't barf up. Lucky for us, it is only $2 a can. Totally organic without any hormones, by-products, or unidentifiable stuff. Or sometimes we make her food. Not the leftovers from our meals, but her very own plate of boiled meat and raw veggies.

This dog has been a major investment for us, but I guess it is like a baby...you don't even stop to think twice about how much it is going to cost. Whatever is best for my baby, my baby gets.
Who would have ever thought I would be so in love with an animal?

I love Maggie too! You are definitely not weird in my book for loving her so much. I would do anything for Gizzie. Cute post!

So lame that I feel the same way about my cat. Sometimes I wonder how I will love my own kids than my cat...I'm so pathetic, I know!

Just a thought- I knew of a friend who had a dog that did the exact same thing! Itching till he was hairless and bloody! :( They did all the allergy testing and all and it did no good...they finally realized that he had a dog version of scabies! it could be totally different, but it might be something to look into! I hope maggie feels better! :)

Oh, she has been tested for every imaginable thing. No scabies here. Ew.
