I bought this book, Love in the Time of Cholera, used in an old bookstore in NY (I miss good bookstores. They are so fun to get lost in) and I am having a hard time getting through the first 20 pages. I want to read it before I see the movie... Has anyone read this and can you tell me to just buckle down and get reading already, that it is totally worth it?

this whole post reminds me of the movie "serendipity." is that why you bought this book in an old used book store . . . i would have totally done the same thing! i didn't even know this was a movie. tell me if the book and the movie end up being good . . .
I haven't read it but I hear it's supposed to be good. Let me know, if you can get through it, if I you recommend it!
Hey! I've been wanting to read this before seeing the movie too!! Let me know if you like it.. It's sounds really good.
Hi Carly- This is totally random, but I stummbled on your blog and wanted to say Hi! It has been quit a while since I have seen you, and after checking out your blog I know why. I had no idea that you lived in New York. Well I hope you don't mind that I am writting you or checked out your blog. I just wanted to say Hi. I also wanted to tell you that I too can not get past the first 20 pages of this book either. I don't know if I have it in me to keep plugging along. Well anyway you can check out our novice blog at rickyanderika.blogspot.com
Becky...I used to live 2 blocks from Serendipity:) I only went there like three times because it was always a 2-3 hour wait. And it is kinda overrated, but still iconic.
All I know about the book is that Oprah thinks it is fabulous (I don't ever watch Oprah so I am not sure where I know that from). I also know that I won't be attempting it, the previews for the movie even look boring to me. Thinking of reading a book like that is bringing back bad memories of me trying to get through "Jane Eyre" in a British lit class on my study abroad program--most miserable book every. When it was stolen along with everything else in my purse the first 10 minutes I was in Paris I took it as a sign. Maybe you need to spend more time in a questionable area of town with that book in your purse...
